Polycom SoundStation IP Phones Range

The Polycom SoundStation IP 7000 is a “next generation” conference phone, featuring high fidelity, 16kHz to 22kHz audio, and a comprehensive range of features for SIP-based, VoIP (”Voice over Internet Protocol”) applications; these include proven, reliable, interoperability with IP PBX (”Private Branch Exchange”) and other platforms. As such, the Polycom SoundStation IP 7000 is suitable for the modern board or conference room, where its full duplex and echo cancellation features can make conference calling a more productive and less tiresome experience. Full duplex operation, for example, means that conference call participants can speak freely without distracting drop-outs.

The Polycom SoundStation IP 7000 also scores well in terms of its flexibility and possibilities for expansion. A large, high resolution LCD (”Liquid Crystal Display”) and an XHTML micro browser, allow the Polycom SoundStation IP 7000 to be more than just another conference phone; it can also be an effective and powerful applications platform. Indeed, bundled software applications include 3-way conference tools, and LDAP (”Lightweight Directory Access Protocol”) – a protocol that enables users to locate resources in Internet, or intranet directories – integration.

It is also possible to connect one or two expansion microphones to each Polycom SoundStation IP 7000 unit so that each conference call participant is sufficiently close – typically between 3′ and 6′ – to be heard clearly. Two Polycom SoundStation IP 7000 units can be connected together, allowing flexibility with regard to loudness and microphone pickup for larger conference calls, and, of course, providing multiple control points.

The Polycom SoundStation IP 4000 is, similarly, a SIP-enabled conference phone – SIP stands for “Session Initiation Protocol”, a telephony protocol that enables Internet calls to be initiated and controlled – providing 360° room coverage through 3 integral microphones. Conference call participants can actually sit up to 10′ away from a microphone and still be heard clearly at the other end of the telephone line, but, for every large conference room, optional expansion microphones are, once again, available.

The Polycom SoundStation IP 4000 features a high resolution, 248 x 68 pixel LCD (”Liquid Crystal Display”) and a menu driven user interface, allowing access to all the functions – transfer, hold, redial, etc. – that you would expect in a modern conference phone.

The Polycom SoundStation IP 3000, alternatively, is designed for use in small to medium-sized conference rooms or offices but, nevertheless, provides uniform, 360° room coverage via an integral speaker, and 3 sensitive microphones. The Polycom SoundStation IP 3000 features a full duplex speakerphone equipped with “Acoustic Clarity Technology”, from Polycom, which allows uninterrupted, free flowing conversation. A graphical LCD, and a standard keypad, with 3 context-sensitive softkeys, are provided and the phone is easy to install and use.
