The Polycom SoundPoint IP 501 is a flexible, 3-line, VoIP (”Voice over Internet Protocol“) phone which incorporates “Acoustic Clarity Technology” for exceptional sound quality and full duplex natural conversation. MGCP (”Media Gateway Control Protocol”) and SIP (”Session Initiation Protocol”) standards are supported and you can choose handset or headset mode in addition to speakerphone mode, so the Polycom SoundPoint IP 501 provides the complete business telephony solution.
It is also possible to upgrade the Polycom SoundPoint IP 501 “in the field”, via downloadable upgrades, to keep pace with new features and functionality. A large, high resolution (160 x 80 pixel) greyscale LCD provides access to a telephone directory, call information, applications, etc., whilst an easy to use keypad – featuring 12 dedicated feature keys and 4 context-sensitive softkeys – provides one touch operation of all common business telephony functions.
Polycom SoundPoint IP 320 & IP 330
The Polycom SoundPoint IP 320 and Polycom SoundPoint IP 330, on the other hand, are 2-line, SIP-enabled phones. Both, however, also feature Polycom’s “Acoustic Clarity Technology” for full duplex communication without noise or echo. The SoundPoint IP 320 offers a single 10/100Mbps (”Megabits per second”) Ethernet connection and is therefore suitable for communal areas, whereas the Polycom SoundPoint IP 330 offers a dual port 10/100Mbps Ethernet switch. This latter feature allows connection to a LAN (”Local Area Network”) or a PC, or laptop, making the SoundPoint IP 330 equally appropriate for IT or call centre workers. A standard, 2.5mm headset port means that the Polycom SoundPoint IP 330 is compatible with most mobile phone headsets.
The Polycom SoundPoint IP 330 includes a number of features to make business telephony easier and more productive. New speed dial entries can be added to the contact directory, for example, with just a few button presses and are automatically allocated the next available speed dial index. “Do not disturb” mode – a.k.a. static forwarding – can allow all your incoming calls to be directed to another extension if you are indisposed for a period of time, and, if ACD (”Automatic Call Distribution”) is available, the Polycom SoundPoint IP 330 supports its various features including login and logout as well as agent available or unavailable.
Polycom SoundPoint IP 301
The Polycom SoundPoint IP 301 is a cost effective IP phone for business users, featuring a large, 85mm x 30mm – 4-lines, each of 20 characters – LCD status panel, and supporting up to two telephone lines. Navigation is menu driven using 10 dedicated feature keys and 3 context sensitive soft keys arranged below the status panel. Additional keys for selecting each line (or for speed dialling if only one line is in use) are also provided.
The Polycom SoundPoint IP 301 can be used in handset or headset mode depending upon its specific application, and modular headset jack provides compatibility with many leading business headsets. Similarly, support for AC power is provided as standard but PoE (”Power over Ethernet”) options – enabling data, voice and power to be integrated on existing Ethernet infrastructure – including power cables for IEEE802.3af are sold separately.
